Visual/Physical Inspection
• | Inspect for after-market devices, such as tyres, wheels or radio frequency
transmitting devices which could affect the operation of the tyre pressure monitor
systems. Refer to
Checking Aftermarket Accessories
in Wiring Systems. |
• | Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious
physical damage or missing components such as the valve stems which could also effect
the operation of the system. |
• | Inspect the tyres for the correct inflation pressures. |
• | Inspect the tyres for any use of sealants. The use of tyre sealants can
obstruct the sensor's pressure sensing port and cause inaccurate tyre pressure readings.
If this condition is verified, replace the sensor. Refer to
Tire Pressure Indicator Sensor Replacement

System Diagnosis
After incorrect system operation has been verified and that aftermarket devices
or tyre sealants are not the cause, begin the system diagnosis with the diagnostic
system check. The diagnostic system check will provide the following information:
- The identification of the control modules that control the tyre pressure
monitoring system.
- The ability of those control modules to communicate via the serial data
circuit.
- The presence of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in those
control modules and there status.
The use of the diagnostic system check will identify the correct procedure for
diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located. Refer to
Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle
