Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Remove the tie rod end. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement.

  4. Object Number: 1957103  Size: SH

    Important: Note the number of turns required to remove the tie rod end lock nut (5).

  5. Remove the tie rod end lock nut (5) from the tie rod (3).
  6. Important: The tie rod boot to tie rod retaining clamp (4) is a single use part and must be discarded after removal.

  7. Remove the tie rod boot to tie rod retaining clamp (4).
  8. Discard the clamp.

    Important: The tie rod boot to steering gear housing clamp (1) is a single use part and must be discarded after removal.

  9. Remove the tie rod boot to steering gear housing clamp (1).
  10. Discard the clamp.

  11. Remove the tie rod boot (2) from the tie rod (3).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1957103  Size: SH
  1. Install the tie rod boot (2) to the tie rod (3).
  2. Install the NEW tie rod boot to steering gear housing clamp (1).
  3. Install the NEW tie rod boot to tie rod retaining clamp (4).
  4. Important: The tie rod end lock nut (5) must be installed rotating the same number of turns as recorded during removal and aligned with the mark previously made on the tie rod (3).

  5. Install the tie rod end lock nut (5) to the tie rod (3).
  6. Install the tie rod end. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement.
  7. Install the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  8. Remove the safety stands.
  9. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
  10. Bounce the vehicle several times to settle the suspension.
  11. Check and adjust the wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement.
  12. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  13. Tighten the tie rod end lock nut (5).
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
