  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use only the spark plug boot special removal tool to remove the spark plug boots. Prying or using regular pliers could damage the boots.

  3. Center the steering wheel.
  4. Remove the power steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .
  5. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster plug clockwise until a torque of 7 N·m (62 lb in) is obtained, then loosen it by 30-40 degrees. Inspect the pinion torque. Maximum pinion preloaded torque is 1 N·m (9 lb in).
  6. Tighten the locknut on the adjuster plug while holding the adjuster plug stationary.
  7. Install the power steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .
  8. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  9. Verify the returnability of the steering wheel to center position after adjustment.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the adjuster plug locknut to 75 N·m (56 lb ft).
