Maintenance Schedule North American Emissions

Determine which of the 2 maintenance schedules, the Short Trip/City Maintenance Schedule or the Long Trip Highway Maintenance Schedule, is correct for the vehicle.

Short Trip/City Maintenance Schedule

Follow the Short Trip/City Maintenance Schedule if most trips include driving in any of the following conditions:

    • The driving distance is less than 8 km (5 mi).
    • The outside temperature is below 0°C (32°F) or greater than 32°C (90°F).
    • The engine idles extensively or at low speeds, such as in stop-and-go traffic.
    • The roads are not paved, dusty, hilly, or mountainous.
    • The vehicle is used for trailer towing, delivery service, police, taxi or other commercial applications.

Driving a vehicle under any of these conditions will cause the engine oil to break down faster.

Refer to the Owner's Manual for Owner Checks and Services, and Periodic Maintenance Inspections.

Short Trip Footnotes

(1) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or the California Air Resources Board has determined that the failure to perform this maintenance item will not nullify the emission warranty or limit recall liability prior to the completion of the vehicle's useful life. GM recommends that all recommended maintenance services be performed at the indicated intervals and the maintenance be recorded.

Long Trip/Highway Maintenance Schedule

Follow the Long Trip/Highway Maintenance Schedule only if none of the conditions from the Short Trip/City Maintenance Schedule are true.

Driving a vehicle with a fully warmed engine under highway conditions will cause the engine oil to break down slower.

Long Trip Footnotes

(1) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or the California Air Resources Board has determined that the failure to perform this maintenance item will not nullify the emission warranty or limit recall liability prior to the completion of the vehicle's useful life. GM recommends that all recommended maintenance services be performed at the indicated intervals and the maintenance be recorded.
