Condition

Some customers may comment on a moan or groan noise coming from the rear of the vehicle with no brake apply. This low frequency noise from the rear brakes may occur at low speeds or in cold ambient temperatures after the vehicle has been parked for an extended period (such as overnight).

Cause

This condition may be caused by a sticking and slip between the pads and the disc.

Correction

Replace the rear brake pad guide springs following the procedure below:

  1. Remove the rear brake pads. Refer to Brake Pads Replacement-Rear in SI.
  2. Remove both the upper and the lower guide springs.
  3. Install new upper and lower guide springs.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the opposite side of the vehicle.
  5. Install the rear brake pads. Refer to Brake Pads Replacement-Rear in SI.
