This bulletin is being revised to include an additional model and calibrations. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-06-04-009 (Section 06 - Engine).

Condition

Some customers may comment on a high and/or rough idle or stall under the following circumstances:

    • When coming to a stop and disengaging the clutch, the vehicle may exhibit a high engine speed (approximately 2000 rpm for up to 10 seconds).
    • In a cold start condition, the vehicle may also exhibit a high idle situation.
    • The vehicle may also exhibit a rough idle and/or shudder during cold starts, during the first 10 seconds that the engine is running or when an automatic transaxle shift occurs quicker than 15 seconds after engine start up.

Correction

Reprogram the ECM with the revised ECM calibration following the procedure below.

  1. Request info using a Tech 2®.
  2. Disconnect the Tech 2® from the vehicle and connect it to a TIS 2000 terminal.
  3. Select Service Programming System.
  4. Select Tech 2®.
  5. TIS 2000 will recognize the VIN and request country usage.
  6. TIS 2000 will show the current calibration on the Tech 2® and what is available to reflash on TIS 2000.
  7. Select Reprogram.
  8. When complete, disconnect the Tech 2® and return to the vehicle.
  9. Connect the Tech 2® to the vehicle and go to the Service Programming System menu.
  10. Select Program ECU and follow the instructions.
  11. The download process to the vehicle's ECM may take up to 10 minutes.

  12. The Tech 2® display will indicate 99.9% Download Completed. This message will stay on the screen for about 30 seconds and then change to Download Completed Successfully. At this point, you have to key OFF for 60 seconds.
  13. Key ON and clear any transmission DTCs that are set (typically there will be 3 DTCs).
  14. Clear any engine ECM DTCs that are set (typically there will be one DTC).
  15. Key OFF again for 15 seconds.
  16. Start the engine and verify that the Check Engine Light does not illuminate. Allow the engine to warm up.
  17. Perform the Crankshaft Relearn Procedure using the Tech 2® (Diagnostics/Special Functions/Crankshaft Relearn).
  18. You will receive a confirmation message that the Crankshaft Relearn Procedure was completed. Once this message is received, key OFF for 15 seconds. This completes the ECM reprogramming.

Parts Information

Important: Do not attempt to order the software or calibration numbers from GMSPO. The software and calibration numbers are programmed into the ECM via a Techline tool device.

The service software and calibration is included in TIS data version 1.75 broadcast to dealers via GM Access on January 27, 2005 and on TIS 2000 CD-ROM version 02 2005 available February 2005 for North American dealers. All other regions can find these calibrations on TIS 2000 CD-ROM version 07.
