This bulletin is being updated with new calibration information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-06-04-069 (Section 06 - Engine).
Condition
Some customers may comment that the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is illuminated. DTC P1403 (EGR Valve Failure) may be stored in the ECM.
Correction
Reprogram the ECM with a new calibration using the Tech 2 scan tool and clear DTCs.
In rare cases, the EGR valve may need to be replaced if the MIL comes back on after reprogramming and DTC P1403 is set again after being cleared.
Reprogramming ECM
- Check the ECM part number on vehicle.
- Reprogram the ECM with the new calibration using a Tech 2 scan tool.
- Perform the following procedures to initialize the ECM before starting vehicle.
- Check ECM for any DTCs, then clear the DTCs.
Important: Prior to reprogramming, check the battery voltage state. If the battery is not fully charged, charge battery.
Important: Prior to reprogramming, make sure Tech 2 software is updated to 25.010-2.052, available on the TIS 2.0 2006.
Important: Prior to reprogramming, make sure Service Programming System has TIS 2.0 2006 (or later) software loaded.

EGR Valve Replacement
- Connect the Tech 2 scan tool.
- Check the ECM calibration number to see if vehicle has been reprogrammed with latest available calibration.
- Check DTCs in the ECM memory.
- If DTC P1403 is set or stored in memory after reprogramming, replace the EGR valve. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Replacement (SI Document ID 1395055) in SI.
- Using the Tech 2 scan tool, reset the ECM adaptation value on the EGR valve after EGR valve replacement. Refer to Resetting Adaptive Values (Total) in Function Selection of Actuator.
- Disconnect the Tech 2 scan tool.
- Perform the following procedures to initialize the ECM before starting vehicle.
Important: In some cases, the EGR valve may also need to be replaced. If the MIL comes back on after reprogramming, the EGR valve should be replaced.

Calibration Information
Important: For European markets, Scan-100 Reprogram Files will be distributed by GM Daewoo.
Important: For GM Tech 2®, TIS2000 CD #02 will be updated with modified ECM Calibration Data. As always, make sure your Tech 2® is updated with the latest software version.
