Condition

Some customers may comment on oil present on the ground and/or oil present on the oil pan around the drain plug. The vehicle may have recently had the engine oil changed.

Cause

The copper washer used with the oil pan drain plug may have been deformed by the drain plug, causing the engine oil to seep out of the drain plug area.

Correction

A new engine oil pan drain plug, with an increased washer pressed surface, is available to address this condition.

When the engine oil is changed, replace the original engine oil pan drain plug and washer with the new drain plug, P/N 94535699, and a new washer, P/N 94525114, in order to prevent a possible oil leak at the drain plug. This new plug should prevent any future oil leak from the drain plug area.

Make sure that the drain plug is tightened to specification upon installation. Refer to the applicable Engine Oil and Filter Replacement procedure in SI.
