Power Steering Pump Hoses and Pipes Replacement Gasoline Engine
Removal Procedure
Important: The left-hand drive model is shown. The right-hand drive model is similar.
- Siphon the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.
- Loosen the fitting and remove the pressure pipe from the power steering pump outlet.
- Loosen the hose clamp and remove the supply hose from the power steering pump inlet.
- Loosen the hose clamps and remove the hoses from the reservoir.
- Remove the retaining clip bolt located above the generator and position the clip away from the pressure pipe.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
- Loosen the fitting and remove the pressure pipe from the power steering gear inlet.
- Loosen the fitting and remove the return pipe from the power steering gear outlet.
- Remove the bolt from the return pipe clip on the crossmember.
- Remove the bolts from each of the 2 clips on the radiator.
- Remove all of the power steering hoses and pipes from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in the Preface section.
- Route the pressure pipe from the power steering pump to the power steering gear.
- Route the return pipe from the fluid reservoir to the power steering gear.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the 2 return pipe clip bolts on the radiator.
Tighten
Tighten the 2 return pipe clip bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
- Install the return pipe into the clip on the crossmember.
- Install the return pipe clip bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the return pipe clip bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
- Install the return pipe and the fitting to the power steering gear outlet.
Tighten
Tighten the return pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Install the pressure pipe and the fitting to the power steering gear inlet.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the pressure pipe to the retaining clip located above the alternator.
- Install the pressure pipe retaining clip bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe retaining clip bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
- Install the hoses and secure the hose clamps to the reservoir.
- Install the supply hose and secure the hose clamp to the power steering pump inlet.
- Install the pressure pipe and the fitting to the power steering pump outlet.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in the Preface section.
- Fill the reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to
Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid.
Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in the Preface section.
- Bleed the system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding.
- Inspect the power steering system for leaks. If there are leaks, correct the cause of the leaks. Refer to
Power Steering Fluid Leaks.
Power Steering Pump Hoses and Pipes Replacement Diesel Engine
Removal Procedure
Important: The left-hand drive model is shown. The right-hand drive model is similar.
- Siphon the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
- Remove the engine beauty cover. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
.
Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.
- Loosen the fitting (2) and remove the pressure pipe (1) from the power steering pump outlet.
- Loosen the hose clamp (4) and remove the supply hose (3) from the power steering pump inlet.
- Loosen the hose clamps (3,5) and remove the hoses (4,6) from the reservoir.
- Remove the retaining clip bolt (1) located above the generator and position the clip away from the pressure pipe.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Loosen the fitting and remove the pressure pipe from the power steering gear inlet.
- Loosen the fitting and remove the return pipe from the power steering gear outlet.
- Remove the power steering gear left mounting bracket upper nut (1).
- Remove the pressure pipe from the clip.
- Remove all of the power steering hoses and pipes from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in the Preface section.
- Route the pressure pipe from the power steering pump to the power steering gear.
- Route the return pipe from the fluid reservoir to the power steering gear.
- Install the pressure pipe to the clip on the power steering gear mounting bracket.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the power steering gear left mounting bracket upper nut (1).
Tighten
Tighten the power steering gear mounting bracket nut to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).
- Install the return pipe and the fitting to the power steering gear outlet.
Tighten
Tighten the return pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Install the pressure pipe and the fitting to the power steering gear inlet.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the pressure pipe to the retaining clip (2) located above the alternator.
- Install the pressure pipe retaining clip bolt (1).
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe retaining clip bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
- Install the hoses (4, 6) and secure the hose clamps (3, 5) to the reservoir.
- Install the supply hose (3) and secure the hose clamp (4) to the power steering pump inlet.
- Install the pressure pipe (1) and the fitting (2) to the power steering pump outlet.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Install the engine beauty cover. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
.

- Fill the reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to
Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid
