Circuit/System Description
The Fuel Pressure Regulator Solenoid 2 is used to control the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. The Fuel Pressure Regulator Solenoid 2 is pulse width modulated (PWM). The engine control module (ECM) supplies the voltage directly to the Fuel
Pressure Regulator Solenoid 2. The ECM controls the solenoid by grounding the control circuit with a solid state device called a driver.
Conditions for Running the DTC
• | The ignition is ON, or the engine is running. |
• | The ignition voltage is less than 16 volts. |
• | The DTCs runs continuously once the above conditions are met. |
Conditions for Setting the DTC
P2293 00, P2293 11, P2293 12, P2293 18, P2293 19
The ECM detects the Fuel Pressure Regulator Solenoid 2 Control Circuit is not within limits for less than 1 second.
P2293 04
The ECM detects the Fuel Pressure Regulator Solenoid 2 Control Circuit is open for less than 1 second.
P2294 02, P2294 54, P2295
The ECM detects the Fuel Pressure Regulator Solenoid 2 Control Circuit is shorted to ground for less than 1 second.
P2294 01, P2296
The ECM detects the Fuel Pressure Regulator Solenoid 2 Control Circuit is shorted to voltage for less than 1 second.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
• | DTC P2293 00 is a type A DTC. |
• | DTCs P2293 11, P2293 12, P2293 18, P2293 19, P2294, P2295, and P2296 are Type B DTCs. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | DTC P2293 00 is a type A DTC. |
• | DTCs P2293 11, P2293 12, P2293 18, P2293 19, P2294, P2295, and P2296 are Type B DTCs. |

Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition ON, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. DTCs P2293, P2294, P2295, or P2296 should not set.
- Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the fuel pressure regulator solenoid 2.
- Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the ignition 1 voltage circuit terminal 2 and ground.
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition 1 voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If circuit tests normal, replace the ECM. |
- Ignition ON, test the voltage between the control circuit terminal 1 and ground. The voltage should be within 3-4 volts.
⇒ | If less than the specified range, test the control circuit for an open or a short to ground. If circuit tests normal, replace the ECM. |
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If circuit tests normal, replace the ECM. |
- Test for less than 5 ohms on the ignition 1 voltage circuit, and the control circuit.
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, repair the appropriate circuit for a high resistance. |
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the fuel pressure regulator solenoid 2.
Component Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the fuel pressure regulator solenoid 2.
- Test for 4-6 ohms between the control terminal 1 and the ignition 1 voltage terminal 2.
⇒ | If not within the specified range, replace the fuel pressure regulator solenoid 2. |
- Test for infinite resistance between each terminal and the solenoid fuel pressure regulator solenoid 2 housing.
⇒ | If not the specified value, replace the fuel pressure regulator solenoid 2. |
Repair Instructions
Perform the
Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
Repair Verification
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool DPF soot mass parameter. The parameter should be less than 24 grams.
