Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
.
- Remove the timing belt. Refer to
Timing Belt Replacement
.
- Disconnect the ignition wires from the spark plugs.
- Disconnect the engine ventilation hoses from the camshaft cover.
- Remove the camshaft cover bolts.
- Remove the camshaft cover and the camshaft cover gasket.
Important: Take extreme care to prevent any scratches, nicks or damage to the camshafts.
- While holding the intake camshaft firmly in place, remove the intake camshaft gear bolt.
- Remove the intake camshaft gear.
- While holding the exhaust camshaft firmly in place, remove the exhaust camshaft gear bolt.
- Remove the exhaust camshaft gear.
Installation Procedure
Important: Take extreme care to prevent any scratches, nicks or damage to the camshafts
- Install the intake camshaft gear.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- While holding the intake camshaft firmly in place, install the intake camshaft gear bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the intake camshaft gear bolt to 67.5 N·m (49 lb ft).
- Install the exhaust camshaft gear.
- While holding the exhaust camshaft firmly in place, install the exhaust camshaft gear bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust camshaft gear bolt to 67.5 N·m (49 lb ft).
- Apply a small amount of gasket sealant to the corners of the front camshaft caps and to the top of the rear camshaft cover-to-cylinder
head seal.
- Install the camshaft cover and the camshaft cover gasket.
- Install the camshaft cover bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the camshaft cover nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Connect the engine ventilation hoses to the camshaft cover.
- Connect the ignition wires to the spark plugs.
- Install the timing belt. Refer to

.
- Install the engine cover. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
- Connect the negative battery cable.
