Removal Procedure

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Important: The brake pedal must be operated more than 10 times. When the clicking can no longer be heard, the clearance between the brake shoe and the drum is adjusted.

  3. Apply the brake at least 10 times until the clicking of the adjustment actuator can no longer be heard on either brake drum.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  5. Test the amount of drag on the drum brake. If the amount of drag is NOT sufficient, continue with this procedure.
  6. Mark the position of the wheels relative to the wheel hubs and remove the rear wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

  8. Remove the drum detent screw.
  9. Remove the brake drum.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1245725  Size: SH
  1. Turn the rear brake adjuster nut in order to adjust the position of the brake shoes.
  2. Install the brake drum.
  3. Test the amount of drag on the drum brake. Ensure the amount of drag is sufficient.
  4. Ensure that the park brake lever stops are against the edge of the shoe web. If necessary, loosen the park brake cable at the equalizer. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Install the detent screw.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the drum detent screw to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  8. Install the rear wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Apply the foot brake several times until the clicking of the adjustment actuator can no longer be heard.
  11. Inspect the park brake system. Adjust the park brake if necessary. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
