Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. If equipped with an anti-lock brake system (ABS), disconnect the connector from the wheel speed sensor.
  3. Remove the brake shoe components. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
  4. Remove the park brake cable and the retainer. Remove the cable from the brake shoe lever. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 1245741  Size: SH
  6. Remove the brake line from the backing plate and plug the opening in the line to prevent fluid loss or contamination.
  7. Remove the wheel cylinder assembly. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 1506523  Size: SH
  9. Remove the bolts that secure the wheel hub assembly to the backing plate.
  10. Remove the wheel hub assembly.
  11. Remove the backing plate and the gasket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1506523  Size: SH
  1. Install the backing plate with a new gasket.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the hub and the bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 65 N·m (48 lb ft).

  5. Install the wheel cylinder assembly. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .
  6. Install the brake line to the backing plate.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the brake line to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  8. Install the brake shoe components. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
  9. Install the park brake cable with the retainer by attaching the cable to the brake shoe lever. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement .
  10. If equipped with ABS, connect the connector to the wheel speed sensor.
  11. Bleed the brakes. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  12. Lower the vehicle.
