Disabling Procedure

  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  4. Locate the instrument panel (I/P) fuse box, then remove the fuse box cover.
  5. Important: With the F1 fuse removed and the ignition switch in the ON position, the AIR BAG warning indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

  6. Remove the F1 fuse.

  8. Remove the lower center pillar. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel Replacement .
  9. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the pretensioner.
  10. Disconnect the seat belt pretensioner - RF connector from the vehicle harness connector.
  11. Remove the CPA from the side impact sensor - RF connector.
  12. Disconnect the side impact sensor - RF connector.

Enabling Procedure

  1. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  2. Connect the side impact sensor - RF connector and install the CPA.
  3. Connect the seat belt pretensioner - RF and install the CPA.
  4. Install the lower center pillar. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 1376168  Size: SH
  6. Install the F1 fuse.
  7. Install the body control module (BCM) fuse center cover.
  8. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
  9. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle if the AIR BAG warning indicator does not operate as described.
