    • J 28467-B (DW117) Universal Engine Support Fixture
    • DW 260-010 Auto Transaxle Support Fixture or equivalent

Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Move the gear select lever to the Park position.
  3. Remove the battery.
  4. Install J 28467-B  (1).

  5. Object Number: 1290880  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the transaxle wiring harness from the transaxle.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the park/neutral position (PNP) switch.

  9. Remove the clips from the shift control cable and disconnect the cable from the transaxle.

  10. Object Number: 1255970  Size: SH
  11. Remove the bolts that secure the upper transaxle to the engine.

  12. Object Number: 1290961  Size: SH
  13. Remove the left transaxle mounting bracket. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement.

  14. Object Number: 1290944  Size: SH
  15. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting and Jacking Caution.
  16. Drain the transaxle fluid.
  17. Remove the oil cooler pipes from the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement.

  19. Remove the drive axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.
  20. Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
  21. Remove the rubber access cover from the transaxle, then remove the flywheel to torque converter bolts.

  23. Support the transaxle.
  24. Remove the bolts from the rear transaxle mounting bracket.
  25. Remove the bolt and nut from the damping block connection.

  27. Use DW 260-010  (1) to support the transaxle assembly.

  29. Remove the bolts that retain the lower engine to the transaxle.

  31. Using the DW 260-010  (1), remove the transaxle assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Note: After installing the transmission assembly, the shift adapts must be reset. Reset the shift adapts using the scan tool. Go to "Trans Adaptives Reset" under "Special Functions" on the scan tool.

  1. Install the transaxle assembly into the vehicle.
  2. Use the DW 260-010  (1) to support the transaxle assembly.
  3. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  4. Install the bolts (1, 2, 3) that retain the lower engine to the transaxle and tighten.
  5. • bolt (1) to 75 N·m (55 lb ft)
    • bolt (2) to 21 N·m (15 lb ft)
    • bolt (3) to 31 N·m (23 lb ft)

  6. Install the bolts to the rear transaxle mounting bracket and tighten to 62 N·m (45 lb ft).
  7. Install the bolt and nut to the damping block connection and tighten to 68 N·m (50 lb ft).
  8. Install the flywheel to torque converter bolts and tighten to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
  9. Install the rubber access cover on the transaxle assembly.
  10. Install the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
  11. Install the drive axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.

  13. Install the oil cooler pipes to the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement.
  14. Lower the vehicle.

  16. Install the left transaxle mounting bracket. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement.

  17. Object Number: 1255970  Size: SH
  18. Install the bolts that secure the upper transaxle to the engine and tighten to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).

  19. Object Number: 1255921  Size: SH
  20. Install the clips to the shift control cable. Connect the cable.

  21. Object Number: 1290880  Size: SH
  22. Install the PNP switch electrical connector.
  23. Connect the transaxle wiring harness to the transaxle.

  24. Object Number: 1289833  Size: SH
  25. Remove J 28467-B  (1).
  26. Install the battery.
  27. Add transaxle fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Level Inspection.
  28. Connect the negative battery cable.
