Bluetooth Communication Description and Operation Holden Genuine Accessory
Bluetooth Wireless Technology
Bluetooth Wireless Technology is a cordless link between two devices, in this
case, a cellular telephone and the Bluetooth car kit. Bluetooth devices communicate
via low-power radio waves. Bluetooth communicates on a frequency of 2.45 gigahertz
which has been reserved by international agreement for the use of industrial, scientific
and medical devices (ISM).
Due to the low power of the signal, approximately 1 milliwatt, a cellular telephone
must be within 10 meters (32 feet) of the vehicle's Bluetooth Module to connect and
operate. However the cellular telephone and the Bluetooth module do not need to be
in a direct line of sight. For example the cellular telephone can be in the centre
console or in a bag while connected to the Bluetooth car kit.
When a paired cellular telephone and the Bluetooth car kit come within range
of one another, an electronic conversation automatically takes place and the devices
form a personal-area network (PAN), or piconet, in the vehicle. To avoid interference
from other Bluetooth devices, once a piconet is established, the paired cellular telephone
and the Bluetooth car kit randomly hop frequencies in unison so they stay in touch
with one another and avoid other piconets that may be operating in the same area.
Bluetooth Definitions
Paired:
The Bluetooth module and the cellular telephone have stored each other's ID
in memory and are available to be connected when they are within 10 meters (32 feet)
of each other.
Connected:
The cellular telephone handset is currently linked with the Bluetooth car kit.
All functions on the Bluetooth car kit are active.
Pairing a Cellular Telephone
Important: Important: If a Blackberry/PDA device is
being used, the pairing action may take several seconds longer to complete. Do not
interrupt during this process or the pairing will not be successful.
The pairing between a cellular telephone with Bluetooth capability and the Bluetooth
car kit can be established using the following procedure.
- Drive the vehicle to a location where there is minimal traffic. Make sure
there are no other paired cellular telephones in the vehicle or in the 10 meter (32
feet) vicinity of the vehicle.
- Switch the cellular telephone ON.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position and hold the Bluetooth button for
four seconds.
- Perform the following steps on the cellular telephone:
4.1. | Enter the Bluetooth menu. |
4.2. | Activate the Bluetooth function. |
4.3. | Search for Bluetooth devices. |
4.4. | Select the device labeled "GM.BT". (This label may be accompanied
by the software version number). |
4.5. | Enter the following PIN: 1234. This establishes the connection between
the cellular telephone and the Bluetooth car kit. |
4.6. | Set the cellular telephone to accept Bluetooth connection requests automatically
without permission (if required). |
Pairing multiple cellular telephones
The Bluetooth car kit can be paired with up to five cellular telephones, but
can only be connected to one cellular telephone at a time. If a sixth cellular telephone
is paired with the Bluetooth car kit, the first or least recent cellular telephone
paired with the Bluetooth car kit ID will be over written and will no longer be paired
with the Bluetooth car kit.
When the ignition is switched on, the Bluetooth car kit searches for the most
recently paired cellular telephone.
Connecting a Cellular Telephone
Important: Make sure the cellular telephone being connected
has been paired with the Bluetooth car kit or the connection will not be successful.
Connection between a paired cellular telephone and the Bluetooth car kit can
be established using the following procedure.
- Move the cellular telephone to within 10 meters (32 feet) of the vehicle's
Blue Tooth Module, preferably inside the vehicle.
- Make sure the cellular telephone is switched on and the Bluetooth function
has been activated.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position.
- Press the Bluetooth switch.
Bluetooth Call Options
After connection between a cellular telephone and the Bluetooth car kit has
been established, the following call options may be selected. Refer to the owner handbook
for specific detail on each call option.
• | Normal cellular phone function - Make and answer calls normally on the
cellular phone handset. |
• | Voice dialing - If the cellular phone is capable, the voice dialing capability
can be used with the Bluetooth communication. |
• | Automatic answer - If activated, the mobile phone automatically
answers incoming calls after one ring. |
• | Rejecting a call - Calls can be rejected by pressing the Bluetooth
switch until the ring tone stops. |
• | Ending a call - Calls can be ended by pressing the Bluetooth switch
once. |
• | Redial the last number - If there is no call in progress, the last
number can be redialed by pressing the Bluetooth switch twice. |
Cancelling the Bluetooth Connection
To cancel the Bluetooth connection, perform any of the following:
• | Turn the ignition to the OFF position. |
• | If no call is in progress, press and hold the Bluetooth button for four
seconds. |
• | Deactivate the Bluetooth function on the cellular telephone. |
• | Move the cellular telephone outside of the reception range of the Bluetooth
car kit (approximately 10 meters). |
• | Switch off the cellular telephone |
Vehicle Audio System
When making or receiving a call, the vehicle's audio system is automatically
set to mute mode. The voice of the caller is heard through the speakers of the audio
systems.
Setting Up the Audio System
The volume, bass, treble, fader and balance can be adjusted in the audio system's
Bluetooth mode without affecting radio or CD settings.
Set up the audio system for Bluetooth by performing the following procedure:
- Make a call using the Bluetooth car kit.
- Adjust the volume, balance and fader settings for Bluetooth.
- End the call.
