Important:
• The illumination of the BRAKE warning indicator may indicate reduced
braking ability. • If the BRAKE warning indicator illuminates when the brake fluid
level is correct and the park brake is released, then a malfunction with
the braking system exists. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake Diagnostic System Check
.
The BRAKE warning indicator is located in the instrument cluster. The BRAKE warning indicator illuminates in order to warn the driver of conditions in the brake system which may result in reduced braking capability.
The BRAKE warning indicator illuminates when the parking brake is applied or not fully released
The following conditions will turn on the BRAKE warning indicator:
• | The park brake is applied or not fully released. If the park brake is applied or not fully released, the switch on the park brake lever assembly will ground the BRAKE warning indicator circuit and causing the BRAKE warning indicator to illuminate. |
• | The brake fluid level is low. If the brake fluid level drops in the master cylinder reservoir, the fluid level sensor will ground the BRAKE warning indicator circuit, causing the BRAKE warning indicator to illuminate. |
• | During engine cranking the BRAKE warning indicator illuminates. The BRAKE warning indicator illuminates during the bulb check in order to notify the driver that the BRAKE warning circuit is operating properly. |
