Brake Drum Vibration Diagnosis

Complete the following steps in order to determine if the front or the rear brakes are causing pulsation with the brakes applied:

  1. Drive the vehicle at low speed. Select an area that is away from people and moving traffic (such as a large parking lot).
  2. Apply the parking brake.
  3. Drive slowly forward for a short distance.
  4. Feel for the pulsation.

If you notice the pulsation, inspect the rear brakes. Refer to Brake Drum Inspection .

If you do not notice the pulsation, inspect the front brakes. Refer to Brake Rotor Thickness Variation Check or Brake Rotor Lateral Runout Check or Brake Rotor Tolerance in Disc Brakes.
