Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement Front

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 221461  Size: SH

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Remove the wheelhousing. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  3. Important: The wheel speed sensor is serviceable only as an assembly. Do NOT attempt to service the sensor harness pigtail.

  4. Remove the wheel speed sensor electrical connector (1).

  6. Remove the nut and clips retaining the wheel speed sensor pigtail harness (1) to the vehicle.

  7. Object Number: 221464  Size: SH
  8. Remove 1 bolt and remove the wheel speed sensor (2) from the steering knuckle.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the wheel speed sensor (2) to the steering knuckle. Secure with 1 bolt.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the front wheel bolt to 7.8 N·m (69 lb in).

  3. Connect the pigtail harness (1) for the front wheel speed sensor to the vehicle. Secure with nut and clips.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the pigtail harness nuts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).

  5. Install the wheel speed sensor electrical connector (1).
  6. Install the wheelhousing. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.

Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement Rear

Removal Procedure

Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Remove the rear seat bottom and seat back.
  3. Remove the electrical connector (1) from the wheel speed sensor.
  4. Important: The wheel speed sensor is serviceable only as an assembly. Do NOT attempt to service the sensor harness pigtail.

  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Pull the pigtail harness (1) for the wheel speed sensor out through body. Remove the grommet (2).

  8. Remove the bolt which retain the wheel speed sensor pigtail harness (1) to the vehicle.

  9. Object Number: 221465  Size: SH
  10. Remove 1 bolt and remove the wheel speed sensor (2) from suspension knuckle (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the wheel speed sensor (2) to steering knuckle (1). Secure with 1 bolt.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the rear wheel speed sensor bolt to 7.8 N·m (69 lb in).

  3. Install the pigtail harness (1) for the rear wheel speed sensor to the vehicle. Secure with 2 nuts and 2 clips.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).

  5. Reposition the wheel speed pigtail harness (1) through the body. Install the grommet (2).

  6. Object Number: 221458  Size: SH
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Connect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector (1).
  9. Install the rear seat bottom and seat back.
