Intermittent malfunctions may be difficult to accurately diagnose. Use the following method in order to isolate an Intermittent malfunction.

If an ABS malfunction occurs, the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) turns ON the ABS warning indicator. The ABS warning indicator remains ON for the duration of the ignition cycle in which the EBCM detected the malfunction and the EBCM stores a Current Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). The EBCM stores a SNAP SHOT of several inputs at the time the DTC was detected. This is called Enhanced DTC. At the end of the ignition cycle (ignition switch to LOCK position) the DTC moves from Current to History. The Capture Data information is always related to the last DTC set. Use a scan tool to retrieve the following data:

    • Current DTC
    • History DTC
    • Enhanced DTC

Malfunctioning electrical connections or wiring cause most Intermittents.
