The inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) is equipped with a DC-DC converter to regulate the voltage to the SIR system. If the battery voltage drops, the DC-DC converter responds by increasing the voltage supply to the SIR system. If the battery voltage drops below a certain level, the SDM will respond by illuminating the AIR BAG warning lamp, but will not store a DTC. If DTCs are read when there is a low battery source voltage, the AIR BAG warning lamp will flash continously. When the source voltage returns to normal, the AIR BAG warning lamp goes out.
The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.
This test checks to see if a discharged battery is causing the malfunction.
This test checks to see if there is excessive drain on the electrical system.
