Did you perform the Instrument Cluster System Check?

  1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sending unit connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper wire from the ECT connector cavity 3 to ground.
  3. Turn the ignition to the ON position.

Does the ETC gauge show the Engine to be hot?

Replace the ECT coolant temperature sensor. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Instrument Cluster System Check

Test the YEL/GRN wire using a J 39200 between the instrument cluster C4 cavity 1 and the ECT sending unit for an open.

Does the wire have an open?

--

Go to Step 5

Repair the open in the YEL/GRN wire between the instrument cluster C4 cavity 1 and the ECT sending unit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Test the BRN wire using a J 39200 between the instrument cluster C4 cavity 2 and ground for a short.

Does the wire have a short?

--

Go to Step 7

Repair the short in the BRN wire between the Instrument cluster assembly C4 cavity 2 and ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Test the instrument cluster assembly printed circuit for any damage.

Does the printed circuit have any damage?

--

Go to Step 9

Replace the instrument cluster assembly printed circuit. Refer to Printed Instrument Cluster Circuit Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Replace the ECT gauge, located on the instrument cluster assembly. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Gage Replacement in Engine Controls.
