Did you perform the Instrument Cluster System Check?

Are there any other gauges inoperative?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Using a test lamp, backprobe the instrument cluster assembly C1 cavity 2 to ground. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement for access.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

--

Go to Step 5

  1. Start and Idle the engine.
  2. Obtain normal operating temperature.
  3. Using a J 39200 DMM, backprobe the connector C3 cavity 3 of the instrument cluster, measure the frequency of the tachometer .

Is the measured frequency within the specified range?

18-25 Hz

Replace the instrument cluster assembly printed circuit. Refer to Printed Instrument Cluster Circuit Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Using a test lamp, backprobe the junction block 3, C2 cavity 18 to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Repair the open in the RED/BLU wire between the junction block 3, C2 cavity 18 and the instrument cluster assembly C1 cavity 2. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the junction block 3. Refer to Instrument Panel Wiring Harness Replacement .

Inspect the instrument cluster assembly printed circuit for damage.

Is there any damage?

Replace the tachometer. Refer to Tachometer Replacement .
