Did you perform the Instrument Cluster System Check?

Test the BRN wire using a J 39200 between the fuel sender assembly cavity 3 and ground for a short.

Does the BRN wire have a short to ground?

--

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

Repair the short in the BRN wire between the fuel sender assembly cavity 3 and ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Instrument Cluster System Check

  1. Connect a fused jumper wire from the fuel sender assembly cavity 2 to ground.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Does the fuel gauge indicate full?

--

Go to Step 5

Replace the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.

Is the replacement complete?

--

Go to Instrument Cluster System Check

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Change the position of the fused jumper wire to the instrument cluster assembly C 1 cavity 9 and ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position

Does the fuel gauge indicate full?

Go to Step 7

Repair the open in the YEL/RED wire between the instrument cluster assembly C 1 cavity 9 and the fuel sender assembly cavity 2. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Inspect the instrument cluster assembly printed circuit for damage.

Is the printed circuit damaged?

Go to Step 9

Replace the printed circuit. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Gage Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Replace the fuel gauge. Refer to Fuel Gage Replacement in Engine Controls.
