Did you perform the Instrument Cluster System Check?

  1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector.
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON position.

Does the temperature gauge indicate cold?

Go to Step 3

Repair the wire. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Instrument Cluster System Check

Connect a fused jumper wire from cavity 3 of the connector to ground.

Does the temperature gauge indicate hot?

Go to Step 5

Replace the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement in Engine controls.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Instrument Cluster System Check

Test the BRN wire using a J 39200 between the instrument cluster assembly and G105 for a short to ground.

Does the wire have a short?

--

Go to Step 3

Test the YEL/GRN wire using a J 39200 between the instrument cluster assembly and the engine coolant temperature sensor for an open.

Does the wire have an open?

Go to Step 3

Inspect the instrument cluster assembly printed circuit for any damage.

Is the printed circuit damaged?

Go to Step 9

Replace the printed circuit. Refer to Printed Instrument Cluster Circuit Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

Replace the ECT gauge. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Gage Replacement .
