- Use the following procedure in order to test
the operation of the one-way clutch:
1.1. | Turn the hub clockwise while holding the sun gear. |
The hub should turn freely.
1.2. | Turn the hub counterclockwise while holding the sun gear. |
The hub should lock.
- Remove the one-way clutch No. 2 brake (6)
from the sun gear (1).
- Remove the snap ring (5).
- Remove the No. 3 planetary carrier thrust washer (4)
from the sun gear input drum (3).
- Remove the sun gear input drum (3) from the sun gear (1).
- You may remove the snap ring (2) from the sun gear.
- Pry off the retainers (7) using a screwdriver.
- Remove the one-way clutch.
- Inspect the one-way clutch and hub for excessive wear.
- Replace the necessary components if excessive wear is evident.
- Install the one-way clutch into the brake hub.
The spring cage (2) should face inward from the flanged side (1)
of the brake hub.
- Hold the brake hub in a vise with soft jaws.
- Install the retainers. Verify that the retainers are centered.
- Stake the tabs with a brass hammer and a punch.
- Test the operation of the one-way clutch.
