Makes 🢒 Chevrolet 🢒 1998 🢒 Prizm 🢒 Transmission/Transaxle 🢒 Automatic Transmission - 3 Speed-MB3 🢒 No. 1 One-Way Clutch and Sun Gear Disassemble

  1. Use the following procedure in order to test the operation of the one-way clutch:
    2. 1.1. Turn the hub clockwise while holding the sun gear.

    The hub should turn freely.

    1.2. Turn the hub counterclockwise while holding the sun gear.

    The hub should lock.

  2. Remove the one-way clutch No. 2 brake (6) from the sun gear (1).
  3. Remove the snap ring (5).
  4. Remove the No. 3 planetary carrier thrust washer (4) from the sun gear input drum (3).
  5. Remove the sun gear input drum (3) from the sun gear (1).
  6. You may remove the snap ring (2) from the sun gear.
  7. Pry off the retainers (7) using a screwdriver.

  8. Remove the one-way clutch.
  9. Inspect the one-way clutch and hub for excessive wear.
  10. Replace the necessary components if excessive wear is evident.
  11. Install the one-way clutch into the brake hub.

    12. The spring cage (2) should face inward from the flanged side (1) of the brake hub.

  12. Hold the brake hub in a vise with soft jaws.
  13. Install the retainers. Verify that the retainers are centered.
  14. Stake the tabs with a brass hammer and a punch.
  15. Test the operation of the one-way clutch.
