Tools Required

    • J 26568 Coolant Tester (Centigrade Scale)
    • J 23688 Coolant Tester (Fahrenheit Scale)

    Important: Use a hydrometer in order to accurately measure the coolant.

    Use a refractometer in order to measure the coolant when the type and quality of the coolant is unknown.

    Important: Do not remove the clear plastic pump from the J 26568 or the J 23688 .

  1. Before each use, swing the plastic cover at the slanted end of the J 26568 or the J 23688 .
  2. Be sure to expose the measuring window and the bottom of the plastic cover.

  3. Use a tissue or a clean, soft cloth in order to wipe the cover dry.
  4. Close the plastic cover.
  5. Release the tip of the pump from the tester.

  7. Insert the tip of the pump into the radiator filler neck.
  8. Ensure that the tip of the pump is below the coolant level.

  9. Press the release bulb in order to procure a sample of the coolant.
  10. Insert the tip of the pump into the cover plate opening.
  11. Important: Do not open the plastic cover when reading the coolant. Water evaporation may change the readings.

  12. Press the bulb in order to allow a few drops to fall onto the measuring surface.

  14. Point the J 26568 or the J 23688 toward any light source.
  15. Look into the eyepiece in order to view the following readings:
  16. • The coolant protection reading
    • The coolant protection reading is at the point where the dividing line between light and dark crosses the scale.
    • The antifreeze protection is indicated by the scale on the right.
    • The temperature reading
    • The temperature scale is reversed from a standard thermometer scale. Below zero readings are on the upper half of the scale.
  17. Complete the following steps if the readings are not clear:
  18. 11.1. Wipe the surfaces dry.
    11.2. Repeat the test.
