Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the battery charge indicator illuminate for five seconds during bulb check?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the generator connector.
  2. Connect a 20 amp fused jumper to the charge indicator ground circuit.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Does the battery charge indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 4

Test the generator supply voltage circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 9

Replace the IC voltage regulator. Refer to Generator Replacement and Generator Overhaul .

  1. Inspect the charge indicator bulb and replace as necessary.
  2. Test the charge indicator supply voltage circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
