Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 238518  Size: SH
  3. Remove the 2 bolts (3) on the muffler assembly.
  4. Remove the 2 nuts and the muffler retaining band (2).
  5. Remove the muffler (1) from the vehicle.

  7. Disconnect the fill limiter vent valve hose (1) from the EVAP canister port (2) by pinching both sides of the hose connector.

  8. Object Number: 238521  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the 3 EVAP hoses (3) from the EVAP canister (1).
  10. Disconnect the drain hose (2) from the EVAP canister vacuum pipe.
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector (4) from the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor (5).
  12. Disconnect the electrical connector from the EVAP pressure switching solenoid .

  14. Remove the 3 EVAP canister hold down bolts.
  15. Remove the EVAP canister from the vehicle.
  16. Inspect the EVAP purge system for carbon particle contamination before replacing the EVAP canister. Refer to Evaporative Emission System Cleaning .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 238524  Size: SH
  1. Install the EVAP canister to the vehicle underbody and secure with the 3 bolts.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Tighten the EVAP canister bracket support bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the EVAP canister bolts to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  5. Connect the 3 EVAP hoses (3) to the EVAP canister (1).
  6. Connect the drain hose (2) to the EVAP canister vacuum pipe.
  7. Connect the fill limiter vent valve hose (6) to the EVAP canister (1).
  8. Connect the electrical connector (4) to the fuel tank pressure sensor (5).
  9. Connect the electrical connector to the EVAP pressure switching solenoid .

  11. Install the muffler (1) to the vehicle.
  12. Install the muffler retaining band (2) and secure with 2 nuts.
  13. Tighten the 2 muffler retaining band nuts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the muffler retaining band nuts to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  15. Connect the muffler (1) to the intermediate pipe (4) with the 2 bolts (3).
  16. Secure with the 2 bolts (3).
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the muffler flange bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  18. Lower the vehicle.
