Removal Procedures

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.

  4. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle body. Refer to Accelerator Control Cable Replacement in Engine Controls - 1.8 L.
  5. Disconnect the Throttle Valve (TV) cable (automatic transmission). Refer to Automatic Transmission Throttle Valve Cable Replacement in Automatic Transmission.

  25. Disconnect the three vacuum lines at the intake manifold.
  26. Remove the two injector harness support brackets.
  27. Remove the intake manifold with the throttle body from the cylinder head.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 234438 Size: SH
  1. Install the following components to the cylinder head:
  2. • A new intake manifold gasket
    • The intake manifold with the throttle body

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Use the following components in order to secure the manifold:
  4. • Three nuts (2)
    • Two bolts (1)

    Tighten
Tighten the intake manifold nuts and the bolts to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  5. Install the two injector harness support brackets.
  6. Connect the three vacuum lines at the intake manifold.
