Removal Procedure
Important: When installing a new compressor, add 60 ml (2.0 fl oz)
of refrigerant oil to the refrigeration system, plus the amount drained from
the old compressor.
- Discharge and recover the refrigerant. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Loosen the drive belt
tension by turning the tensioner clockwise.
- Remove the compressor serpentine drive belt.
- Disconnect the compressor
clutch electrical connector (4).
- Remove the 1 bolt (2) and the compressor and condenser hose assembly
(1) from the compressor.
Important: Cap the open fittings to prevent dirt and moisture from entering the
refrigeration system.
- Remove the compressor upper mounting bolt (5).
- Raise and suitably support vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the right side engine splash shield. Refer to
Engine Splash Shield Replacement
in Body Front
End.
- Remove the 2 compressor lower mounting bolts (6) and the
compressor from the vehicle.
- If the compressor is to be replaced, drain and measure the amount
of oil in the compressor.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the compressor
to the vehicle. Secure the compressor with the 2 lower mounting
bolts (6).
Tighten
Tighten the compressor lower mounting bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the right side engine splash shield. Refer to
Engine Splash Shield Replacement
in Body Front
End.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the compressor upper mounting bolt (5).
Tighten
Tighten the compressor upper mounting bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install new O-rings lubricated with mineral base 525 viscosity
refrigerant oil to the compressor and condenser hose assembly.
- Install the compressor and condenser hose assembly (1) to the
compressor.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor and condenser hose assembly bolt (2) to 47 N·m
(35 lb ft).
- Connect the compressor clutch electrical connector (4).
- Install the compressor
serpentine drive belt.
- Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Operate the A/C system and test for refrigerant leaks. Refer
to
Leak Testing
.
