Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

Caution: Failure to observe Step 1 may result in a serious personal injury. If a tool is shorted at the generator lead, the tool will become hot enough to cause a serious burn.

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

  2. Object Number: 244267 Size: SH
  3. Loosen the belt tension by turning the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
  4. Remove the drive belt.

  5. Object Number: 244251 Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the wire clamp from the wire clip on the rectifier end frame.
  7. Remove the following:
  8. • The rubber cap
    • The nut
  9. Disconnect the following components:
  10. • The generator wire
    • The generator connector

    Object Number: 244308 Size: SH
  11. Remove the following components:
  12. • The two bolts
    • The generator (1)

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 244308 Size: SH
  1. Install the generator (1) to the vehicle. Secure the generator with the two generator mounting bolts.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the upper and lower mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten

        • Tighten the upper bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
        • Tighten the lower bolt to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).

    Object Number: 244251 Size: SH
  5. Connect the generator connector.
  6. Connect the generator wire.
  7. Install the following parts:
  8. • The nut
    • The rubber cap
  9. Install the wire clamp to the wire clip on the rectifier end frame.

  10. Object Number: 244267 Size: SH
  11. Install the drive belt.
  12. • Visually inspect the drive belt for wear and damage.
    • Minor cracks on the ribbed side of the belt are considered acceptable. Replace the belt if pieces are missing from the ribs.
    • Ensure that the belt tensioner moves downward when the belt is pressed down in the center with a force of approximately 98 N (22 lb).
  13. Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
  14. Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
