Tools Required
Disassembly Procedure
- Remove the strut assembly from the vehicle. Refer to
Strut Assembly Replacement
.
- Mount the J 34013
into the J 3289-20
.
- Install the strut assembly into the J 34013
using the J 34013-88
.
Caution: Do not over compress the spring. Severe overloading may result in tool
failure which could result in bodily injury.
- Compress the coil spring.
- Remove the strut rod piston nut.
- Release the compressed spring. Remove the strut assembly from
the J 34013
.
- Remove the following components
from the strut:
• | The strut insulator (3) |
• | The lower insulator (8) |
- Compress and extend the
strut rod.
- Verify that the strut rod does not have abnormal resistance or
unusual operation sounds.
If the strut rod shows any abnormality, replace the strut.
Assembly Procedure
- Install the following
components to the strut:
• | The lower insulator (8) |
• | The strut insulator (3) |
- Mount the strut assembly
into the J 34013
using
the J 34013-88
.
Caution: Do not over compress the spring. Severe overloading may result in tool
failure which could result in bodily injury.
- Compress the coil spring.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the strut
rod piston nut.
Tighten
Tighten the strut rod piston nut to 49 N·m (36 lb ft).
- Release the compressed coil spring. Remove the compressed coil
spring from theJ 34013
.
- Install the strut to the vehicle. Refer to
