Removal Procedure
- Remove the rear wheel hub. Refer to
Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement
.
- Remove the brake pipe from the brake hose and backing plate.
- Remove the backing plate from the rear suspension knuckle. Refer
to
Brake Backing Plate Replacement
in Drum Brakes.
- Remove the following components from the rear
suspension knuckle (2):
- Loosen the mounting bolts and nuts which secure the tow strut
assembly to the rear suspension knuckle.
- Remove the following components from the rear
suspension knuckle (1):
- Remove the following components from the rear suspension knuckle:
- Remove the rear suspension knuckle from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the rear
suspension knuckle to the vehicle. Secure the rear suspension knuckle to the
strut assembly using 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts and nuts to 142 N·m (105 lb ft).
- Install the lateral links (2) to the rear
suspension knuckle. Secure the lateral links (2) using one bolt and
nut. Do not tighten the lateral link bolts fully.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the trailing arm (1) to the rear suspension knuckle.
Secure the trailing arm (1) using one bolt and nut.
Tighten
• | Tighten the trailing arm bolt and nut to 91 N·m (67 lb ft). |
• | Tighten the lateral links bolt and nut to 118 N·m
(87 lb ft). |
- Install the backing plate to the rear suspension knuckle. Refer
to
Brake Backing Plate Replacement
in Drum Brakes.
- Install the brake pipe to the backing plate and brake hose.
Tighten
Tighten the brake pipe fittings to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Install the rear wheel hub. Refer to
Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement
.
- Bleed the brake system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding
in Hydraulic Brakes.
- Inspect the rear wheel alignment. Refer to
Wheel Alignment Measurement
in Wheel Alignment.
