Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the brake
shield to the steering knuckle. Secure the brake shield with the 3 bolts
using a TORX ® wrench (T30).
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 8.3 N·m (74 lb ft).
- Place the hub on a press with the wheel stud side down.
- Place the steering knuckle on the hub.
Important: Use care in order to not damage the bearing while installing the hub.
- Press the hub into the steering knuckle using the following tools:
- Install the front wheel bearing retainer to the steering knuckle
using snap ring pliers.
- Install the inner seal to the steering knuckle using the J 35737-2
.
- Apply GCLB grease (GM P/N 1051344 or equivalent)
to the inner seal lip.
Important: If the vehicle is equipped with ABS, align the holes for the ABS speed
sensor in the inner shield and the steering knuckle.
- Install the inner seal shield to the steering knuckle.
- Remove the steering knuckle from the vise.
- Install the steering knuckle with the ball stud to the vehicle.

- Install the brake rotor to the vehicle. Refer to

.
- Install the following components to the strut:
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 29 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Install the ABS wheel
speed sensor (1) and the bolt (2) to the knuckle.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Measure the front wheel alignment. Refer to
Wheel Alignment Measurement
in Wheel Alignment.
