Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the left rear tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the left brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement in Drum Brakes.

  4. Object Number: 702213  Size: SH
  5. Remove 2 bolts (2) and the left rear cable (3) from the left rear backing plate.
  6. Remove the intermediate pipe and the catalytic converter heat shields from the vehicle.
  7. Remove the following components from the equalizer:
  8. • The 1 retainer
    • The 2 clamps
    • The left cable
  9. Remove the following components from the vehicle:
  10. • The 3 bolts (5,6,10)
    • The retainer (11)
    • The 2 clamps (4,7)
    • The left rear cable (3)

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the 2 clamps (4,7) and the retainer (11) to the left rear park brake cable (3).
  2. Install the retainer, the 2 clamps and the left rear cable to the equalizer (yellow ID tape). Install the cable to the right side of the equalizer.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the 3 bolts (5,6,10) in order to retain the park brake cable to the vehicle.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).

  6. Install the intermediate pipe and the catalytic converter heat shield.
  7. Install the park brake cable to the backing plate. Install the 2 bolts (2).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).

  9. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement in Drum Brakes.
  10. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
