Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the right rear tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle.
Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the right brake shoes. Refer to
Brake Shoe Replacement
in Drum Brakes.
- Remove 2 bolts (1)
and the right rear cable from the right rear backing plate.
- Remove the intermediate pipe and the catalytic converter heat
shields from the vehicle.
- Remove the following components from the equalizer:

Installation Procedure
- Install the 2 clamps (13,15)
and the retainer (9) to the right rear park brake cable.
- Install the retainer, the 2 clamps and the right rear cable
to the equalizer (yellow ID tape). Install the cable to the left side of the
equalizer.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the 3 bolts (8,12,14)
in order to retain the park brake cable to the vehicle.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).
- Install the intermediate pipe and the catalytic converter heat
shield.
- Install the park brake cable to the backing plate. Install the
2 bolts (1).
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).
- Install the brake shoes. Refer to
Brake Shoe Replacement
in Drum Brakes.
- Install the rear tire and wheel assembly to the vehicle. Refer
to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
