Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

Important: The automatic transmission control lever solenoid is a part of the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) system. The solenoid prevents the operator from shifting the automatic transmission control out of the (P) PARK position, unless the brake pedal is depressed.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Object Number: 428274  Size: SH
  3. Remove the front and the rear console assembly. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the shift interlock solenoid (2).

  5. Object Number: 428293  Size: SH
  6. Remove the indicator bulb (2).
  7. Remove the 2 screws that retain the shift indicator cover (1).
  8. Raise and rotate the shift indicator cover to access 2 retaining screws on the shift interlock solenoid.
  9. Remove the 2 screws and the shift interlock solenoid.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 428293  Size: SH
  1. Install the shift interlock solenoid and the 2 screws.
  2. Rotate the shift indicator cover (1) back to the original position and firmly snap downward.
  3. Install the 2 screws.

  4. Object Number: 428274  Size: SH
  5. Connect the electrical connector to the shift interlock solenoid (2).
  6. Connect the indicator bulb.
  7. Install the rear floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.
