Did you review the Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Attempt to move the selector lever out of the PARK position. The selector lever should not move from the PARK position.
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal.
  4. Attempt to move the selector lever out of the PARK position. The selector lever should move out of the PARK position.

Does the shift lock control operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Connect a scan tool and monitor the brake switch parameter in the Engine Data List.

Does the brake switch indicate Applied when the brake pedal is depressed?

Go to Step 6

Test the brake switch signal circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the brake switch supply voltage circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the shift lock control module supply voltage circuits for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
