Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  3. Object Number: 428306  Size: SH
  4. Remove the key lock solenoid electrical connector (1) from the key lock solenoid.
  5. Remove the steering wheel column cover screws and covers.

  6. Object Number: 428315  Size: SH
  7. Remove the 2 screws (1) and the key lock solenoid from the ignition switch (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 428315  Size: SH
  1. Install the key lock solenoid into the ignition switch (2). Secure the ignition switch with 2 screws (1).

  2. Object Number: 428306  Size: SH
  3. Install the key lock solenoid electrical connector (1) to the key lock solenoid.
  4. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  5. Important: Upon completion of the key lock solenoid installation, perform the following steps in order to ensure proper operation:

       • With the manual selector lever in the Park position, you can turn the ignition switch from ACC to LOCK position and you can remove the ignition key from the ignition switch.
       • With the manual selector in any position other than Park position, you cannot turn the ignition switch from ACC to LOCK position.

  6. Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
