Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Disconnect the shift cables.
  3. Remove the 4 gear shift guide case bolts.
  4. Remove the gear shift guide case.
  5. Remove the gasket.
  6. Remove the 2 gear shift guide case bracket bolts.
  7. Important: When removing the shifting bracket notice that there is a select lever bushing and that it must be replaced in its original position, or incorrect shifting may occur.

  8. Remove the gear shift guide bracket.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the gear shift guide bracket and the 2 bolts.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  3. Install the gear shift guide case gasket.
  4. Install the gear shift guide case and the 4 bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the gear shift guide case bolts to 20 N·m (14 lb ft).

  6. Connect the shift cables.
  7. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement in Engine Electrical.
