Possible Cause

Compressor Noise

Resonant compressor noises are not a cause for alarm. However, irregular noises or rattles may indicate broken parts or excessive wear.

    • The A/C system is overcharged. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
    • The compressor mounting bolts are not torqued to specification.
    • The compressor pulley bearing is faulty.
    • The compressor drive belt is slipping.

Refrigerant Line/Hose Noise

    • The lines/hoses are grounded. Reposition the A/C lines/hoses.
    • The lines/hoses are rubbing on other components. Position and secure the A/C lines/hoses.

Internal Compressor Noise

    • A faulty piston shoe
    • A faulty bearing
    • A faulty cylinder
    • A faulty shaft

Replace the compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .

Compressor Clutch Noise

    • A faulty compressor clutch. Replace the compressor clutch. Refer to Compressor Clutch Plate and Hub Assembly Removal and Compressor Clutch Plate/Hub Assembly Install .
    • A faulty bearing. Replace the compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .

HVAC Module Noise

    • Foreign material is in the HVAC module.
    • The HVAC module is not torqued to specification.
    • The actuator doors are damaged.
    • The actuator door seals are damaged.

Blower Motor Noise

    • Foreign material is on the fan.
    • The fan blades are damaged.
    • The blower motor has internal damage.
