Verify that the hazard lamps are inoperative.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Using a test lamp, check the hazard switch cavity 6 to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn the hazard switch to the ON position.
  2. Using a test lamp, check the hazard switch cavity 5 to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 12

Using a test lamp, check the fuse and relay block 1, C5 cavity 3 to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 6

Check the HAZARD fuse, located in fuse and relay block 1.

Does an open exist in the 10 A HAZARD fuse?

Go to Step 8

Repair the open in the battery positive voltage circuit between the relay block 1, C5 cavity 3 and hazard switch cavity 6. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 23

  1. Disconnect fuse and relay block 1 connector C 5.
  2. Place the hazard switch in the off position.
  3. Test cavity 3 of connector C5 for high resistance to ground.

Is there high resistance to ground in the battery positive voltage circuit?

Go to Step 10

Replace the 10 A hazard fuse.

Is the repair complete?

Repair the short to ground condition between fuse and relay block 1 connector C 5 cavity 3 and ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the fuse and relay block 1. Refer to Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement in Wiring Systems.

Using a test lamp, check junction block 1 turn/hazard flasher cavity 2 to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 14

Replace the hazard switch. Refer to Hazard and Turn Signal Flasher Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 23

Using a test lamp, check junction block 1 turn/hazard flasher cavity 3 to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 16

Repair the open in the flasher feed circuit between the junction block 1 turn/hazard flasher cavity 2 and fuse and relay block 1, C5 cavity 3. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Using a test lamp, check junction block 1, C4 cavity 1 to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 18

Replace the turn/hazard flasher on junction block 1.

Using a test lamp, check the hazard switch cavity 4 to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Using a test lamp, check the junction block 1, C6 cavity 5 to ground.

Repair the open in the GRN/WHT wire between the hazard switch cavity 4 and the junction block 1, C4 cavity 1. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open in the GRN/WHT wire between the junction block 1 turn/hazard flasher cavity 3 and the junction block 1, C4 cavity 1. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
