The information in this section provides the body service procedures that apply to the front doors and to the rear doors.
The service attaching screws may not contain a thread-locking compound. Treat the threads of the fasteners with GM P/N 12345493 or with the equivalent for the following reasons:
• | In order to prevent looseness of the service screws |
• | In order to renew the thread-locking characteristics of the production screws |
Apply GM P/N 12345493 to the hardware attachment as a liquid. Upon installation and upon tightening, the adhesive cures in order to bond the attachment in order to prevent the following conditions:
• | Loosening |
• | Backing |
The adhesive bond does not prevent future attachment removal if required.
The mechanical components of the door assembly are lubricated during assembly. If additional lubrication is required, use the following lubricants:
• | Lubricate all door-lock cylinders with Multi-Purpose Lubricant GM P/N 12346241 or with the equivalent. |
• | Lubricate the remainder of the door hardware mechanisms with GM P/N 1052196 Lubriplate Auto-lube A or with the equivalent. |
A waterproof deflector seals the door inner panel and prevents entry of water into the body. The deflector secures to the door inner panel. Peel back the deflector as needed in order to service the door components.
The rear side door lock (3) includes a rear door child security lock. This lock engages and disengages with a switch (1) built into the rear side door lock. With the switch engaged, you may only open the rear side door (2) with the outside handle.
You cannot service the rear door child security lock separately. Service the security lock as part of the rear side door lock.
Federal law requires General Motors to label major parts of the vehicle with a theft deterrent label. The theft deterrent label (4) is permanently affixed to the interior surface of the right and left front and rear doors and contains the complete vehicle identification number (VIN).
Important: Theft deterrent labels (4) are not to be defaced, removed or covered over. These labels must be shielded from paint, rustproofing, and undercoating (dealer preparation included).
For further information on theft deterrent labels, refer to Anti-Theft Labeling in General Information.
