Removal Procedure

    Caution:  When a rear compartment lid hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

  1. Raise and suitably support the rear compartment lid.
  2. Remove the rear compartment lid lock. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .

  4. If the vehicle is equipped with a remote rear compartment release, then perform the following steps:
  5. • Feed the rear compartment lid lock release cable through the rear compartment lid.
    • Unclip the release cable from the retaining clips on the rear compartment lid hinge.
    • Remove the release cable from the rear compartment lid.
  6. Remove the 2 bolts from each rear compartment lid hinge (2).
  7. With the help of an assistant, remove the rear compartment lid (1) from the vehicle.
  8. Remove the rear compartment lid lock cylinder from the rear compartment lid, if necessary. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  9. Remove the nameplate and/or the emblem from the rear compartment lid, if necessary. Refer to Exterior Trim Molding/Nameplate Replacement in Exterior Trim.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the nameplate and/or the emblem to the rear compartment lid, if removed. Refer to Exterior Trim Molding/Nameplate Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  2. Install the rear compartment lid lock cylinder to the rear compartment lid, if removed. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. With the help of assistant, install the rear compartment lid (1) to the vehicle. Secure the lid with the 4 bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the rear compartment lid bolts to 7 N·m (62 lb in).

  6. If the vehicle is equipped with a remote rear compartment lid release, then perform the following:
  7. • Feed the release cable through the rear compartment lid.
    • Clip the cable into the retaining clips on the rear compartment lid hinge.
  8. Install the rear compartment lid lock. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .
  9. Adjust the rear compartment lid as necessary. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Adjustment .
