Caution: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the
SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.
Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment,
personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
.
Important: In the event deployment has occurred, inspect the steering wheel module
coil wire for any sign of scorching, melting, or other damage due to excessive
heat. If the coil is damaged, replace it.
- Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
- Remove the steering wheel
from the steering column. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Remove the three screws and the steering column lower trim cover
(6) from the steering column.
- Remove the one screw and the steering column upper trim cover
(7) from the steering column.
- Remove the wire tie from
the steering wheel module coil wire (3).
- Disconnect the steering wheel module coil electrical connector.
- Remove the screws and the steering wheel module coil (2) from
the turn signal base (4).
- Inspect the turn signal switch base (4) for physical damage. If
physical damage is evident, replace the turn signal, headlamp, and windshield
washer switch with levers and the inflatable restraint module coil as
an assembly.
