Important: Before you adjust the park brake, ensure that the drum brake adjustment
is within specifications. Refer to
Drum Brake Adjustment
in Drum Brakes for more information.
Pull the park brake lever all the way up. Count the number of clicks.
Adjust the parking brake if you hear one of the following audible conditions:
Complete the following steps in order to adjust the
parking brake:
- Remove the following components:
• | The rear center console |
- Loosen the upper park
brake front cable nut (2).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Turn the lower park
brake front cable nut until the park brake travel is correct.
Tighten
Tighten the upper park brake front cable nut to 5.4 N·m
(48 lb in).
