Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  3. Object Number: 382571  Size: SH
  4. Remove the engine cooling fan clutch. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling
  5. Remove the engine drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  6. Remove the fan pulley.
  7. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  8. Remove the A/C compressor, if equipped. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in HVAC Systems with A/C -- Manual.
  9. Remove the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering Systems.
  10. Remove the water outlet. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  12. Remove the bolts holding the accessory mounting bracket to the engine.
  13. Remove the accessory mounting bracket.
  14. Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .
  15. Remove the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
  16. Remove the valve rocker arms and push rods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  17. Disconnect the fuel pipes from the fuel rails. Refer to Fuel Hose/Pipes Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.

    Important: The intake manifold can remain on the cylinder head. Refer to Intake Manifold Removal if intake manifold removal is required.

  19. Remove the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Removal .
  20. Clean all sealing surfaces. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Refer to Intake Manifold Installation if the intake manifold was removed.
  2. Install the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation .
  3. Connect the fuel pipes to the fuel rails. Refer to Fuel Hose/Pipes Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  4. Install the valve rocker arms and push rods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  5. Install the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
  6. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .

  8. Install the accessory mounting bracket.
  9. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Install the bolts holding the accessory mounting bracket.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the accessory mounting bracket bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  12. Install the water outlet. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  13. Install the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering Systems.
  14. Install the A/C compressor, if equipped. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in HVAC Systems with A/C -- Manual.

  16. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  17. Install the fan pulley and bolts.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the fan pulley bolts to 30  N·m (22 lb ft).

  19. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  20. Install the engine cooling fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  21. Fill the engine with coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  22. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
