  1. Check the exhaust system components for loosness.
  2. Check for misalignment.
  3. Check the heat shields for loosness.

Are any components loose or misaligned?

  1. Align the exhaust system components.
  2. Tighten the connections to specified torque. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

Did the vibration stop?

--

System OK

Go to Step 3

  1. Check for damaged hangers.
  2. Check for damaged mounting brackets.

Are there any damaged hangers or mounting brackets?

--

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

  1. Replace the damaged hangers and the damaged mounting brackets.
  2. Align the system as necessary.
  3. Tighten the connections to specified torque. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

Did the vibration stop?

--

System OK

Go to Step 5

Check all the flanges, nuts and bolts for damage.

Are any flanges or fasteners damaged?

--

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

  1. Replace the damaged components.
  2. Align and tighten as necessary to specified torque. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

Is the exhaust system still vibrating?

Go to Step 7

System OK

Check the exhaust manifold pipe seal for damage.

Is the exhaust manifold pipe seal damaged?

--

Go to Step 8

Align, tighten or replace, as required, the exhaust manifold pipe seal

Has the system stopped vibrating?

System OK
