The "Check Gauges" light on 1986-88 S/T trucks with 2.8L engine and optional gauge cluster may flicker at idle. The flicker will go away as soon as the engine speed is above normal idle.
The oil pressure sender is a combination unit, with both a sender for the gauge and a switch for the light. The calibration of the switch is high enough to allow the light to come on with the reduced oil pressure normally found at idle (6 to 10 psi).
1. Insure that the engine has at least 6 psi oil pressure at idle by using an external gauge.
2. Replace the sender with P/N 10137603.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
